Andaman Weather by Month: Rain, Heat and Sea Conditions

The Andamans sit close to the equator in the Bay of Bengal, so temperatures barely change through the year. What changes is rain, wind and sea conditions, and those decide how smooth your ferries and water sports will be. The pattern below is typical, not a promise: island weather can turn quickly.
The short version
| Months | Weather | Sea and activities |
|---|---|---|
| December to February | Dry, bright, pleasant | Calm seas, best visibility, busiest period |
| March to April | Hotter and more humid | Still good for water sports, fewer crowds |
| May to June | First showers arrive | Choppier sea, some activities limited |
| July to September | Wettest, grey skies | Ferries may be delayed, many water sports paused |
| October to November | Rain tapers, showers possible | Sea settles, a good-value window |
December to February
Days are warm and dry, skies are clear and the sea is at its calmest. Mid December to mid January is peak season, so expect higher prices and full hotels. If you want sunset photos at Radhanagar Beach, this is the window. See our beach guide for where to go.
March and April
Heat and humidity build, but mornings are lovely and the water is clear for snorkelling and diving. Prices begin to ease, which makes this a favourite with travellers who want good weather without the new-year rush. Midday sun is strong, so plan beach time for morning and late afternoon.
May and June
The southwest monsoon usually arrives in late May. Expect afternoon or overnight showers, wind and a livelier sea. Many days are still enjoyable, but plan flexibly. Read our monsoon guide before you book.
July to September
This is the rainiest stretch. Rough seas can delay or cancel ferries and pause water sports and boat trips such as Ross Island or Elephant Beach. The upside is the lowest hotel rates and empty beaches. Keep your days between islands flexible and avoid tight flight connections.
October and November
The rain eases and the sea settles. Occasional showers still happen, and the Bay of Bengal can produce short-lived storms at this time, so keep an eye on forecasts before you travel. Visibility improves through November and prices stay moderate.
Short days: plan for early starts
Because the islands follow Indian time but lie far to the east, the sun rises and sets early. In winter it is dark by around 5 pm. Plan sightseeing, ferries and beach time for the morning and early afternoon, and book the Light and Sound Show or sunset spots with this in mind.
Water temperature and visibility
The sea is warm throughout the year. Visibility is generally best in the dry months and drops after heavy rain. Our team can tell you which beaches and dive sites are working on your dates.
