Best Time to Visit Andaman: Month-by-Month Guide

The Andaman Islands can be visited almost all year, but the experience changes a lot from month to month. Calm seas, clear water and sunny days make October to May the popular window. The monsoon months bring rain, rough seas and a higher chance of ferry changes, but also lower prices and quiet beaches.

This guide describes typical patterns. Weather is never guaranteed in the islands, so keep a little flexibility in your plan.

The three seasons at a glance

SeasonMonthsWhat to expect
Peak seasonMid December to mid JanuaryBest weather, highest prices, hotels and ferries sell out early
Main seasonOctober to mid December, mid January to MarchPleasant weather, good water sports, easier to book
Off seasonApril to SeptemberLower prices, more rain from May, some activities paused

We price our trips by these same seasons, which is why the trip builder asks for your travel date first.

October to mid December

The rains fade and the sea settles. Water visibility improves through November, so this is a lovely time for snorkelling and diving. Crowds are smaller than in December, and you get good value before peak rates begin.

Mid December to mid January

This is the busiest stretch of the year because of holidays and New Year. Weather is warm and dry, with bright sunsets over Radhanagar Beach. Book hotels and ferries well ahead, and expect the highest rates of the year.

Mid January to March

Skies stay clear and the sea is calm, but crowds thin out after the new year rush. For many travellers this is the sweet spot: great weather, workable prices and plenty of availability. It is also a good time for scuba diving in Havelock.

April to May

Heat and humidity rise, but the sea is still good for water sports in April. Prices begin dropping. Late May usually brings the first monsoon showers.

June to September

This is the monsoon. Expect frequent rain, stronger winds and choppy seas. Ferries and boat trips can be delayed or cancelled, and some water activities may pause. If you travel now, choose a flexible itinerary such as Port Blair Heritage, which keeps most sightseeing on land. In return, you get the lowest prices and empty beaches.
