The Andamans reward a little planning. Ferries take real time, Havelock needs at least a night to enjoy, and Port Blair holds a day or two of sightseeing. Here are realistic plans for three common trip lengths.

A 4-day Andaman itinerary (3 nights)

Short on time? Stay in Port Blair or add one night on Havelock.

  • Day 1: Arrive, visit Cellular Jail and the evening light and sound show. See our Cellular Jail guide.
  • Day 2: Ross Island and North Bay, or Baratang if you prefer caves. See Ross Island and North Bay.
  • Day 3: Wandoor beach or museums and shopping.
  • Day 4: Departure.

Ready-made options: Port Blair Heritage and Island Hopper.

A 5-day Andaman itinerary (4 nights)

This is the best length for first-timers who want Havelock.

  • Day 1: Arrive and see Port Blair's sights.
  • Day 2: Morning ferry to Havelock, afternoon at Radhanagar Beach.
  • Day 3: Elephant Beach for snorkelling, then return to Port Blair or stay another night.
  • Day 4: Baratang or Ross Island.
  • Day 5: Departure.

See Havelock Express or Havelock Sunset.

A 7-day Andaman itinerary (6 nights)

Seven days lets you slow down and add Neil Island.

  • Days 1 to 2: Port Blair sightseeing.
  • Days 3 to 4: Havelock, with Radhanagar, Elephant Beach and optional scuba diving.
  • Day 5: Neil Island beaches and Natural Rock.
  • Day 6: Return to Port Blair, shopping or Baratang.
  • Day 7: Departure.

See Havelock and Neil for a similar route, and Grand Andaman for the longest plan.

Rules we plan around

  • Spend at least one night on Havelock. A same-day visit wastes the ferry time.
  • Return to Port Blair at least one night before your flight, in case a ferry is delayed.
  • Leave a buffer in monsoon months.

Questions answered

How many days are enough for Andaman?

Five to six days is ideal for Port Blair and Havelock. Add one more day for Neil Island.

Can I do Havelock in a day trip?

It is possible, but not recommended. A night on the island makes the trip worthwhile.

Is a 3 night trip worth it?

Yes, if you focus on Port Blair and one island at a relaxed pace.
